Mallhalla was a location exclusive to the Archie's Weird Mysteries television series, making its first and only appearance in the episode, "Mega-Mall of Horrors".

It is unknown whether Mallhalla has made appearances elsewhere in the world, or if it's just the name for the Riverdale location, but it was founded quite some time ago by the limitlessly wealthy Calvin Avaricci, who had traded his soul to the Devil for extra riches and now had to repay his debt by brainwashing innocent teenagers, all while unable to leave the building due to his curse. Thus, the mall mysteriously arrived in Riverdale overnight, using its distinct sound waves to draw in its customers.

Role in the Series[]

The mall contains many stores that sell a wide variety of unusual merchandise. Instead of using money, the shoppers are given special golden cards called Mallhalla Charge Cards that only work inside the mall and can be used to buy anything they want. However, when their credit runs out, it is time for them to pay, namely by giving up their souls and being turned into mannequins.

Mallhalla has strange speakers that has the power to either lure people to come to the mall or hypnotize to forget people who have disappeared. It is revealed that if one were to rip their card in half or simply avoid splurging, they will regain their memory and soul, bringing the mannequins back to life. This was ultimately how the anti-materialist Jughead Jones was able to bring down the entire operation, causing it to sink into the depths of hell alongside its owner.

Trivia[]

  • Mallhalla is both a play on the word and based on the place Vallhalla, which is known in Norse mythology as the final resting place for Vikings. As it would make sense that the mall was created to capture anyone and take them to their final resting place.
  • According to Archie Andrews, when someone is turned into a mannequin, they are unable to move or talk but maintain their sight and hearing abilities.
  • The title card for "Mega-Mall of Horrors" suggests that Mallhalla might be sentient, giving it a demonic face. However, this face does not appear in the episode itself.
